New Year New Post

Man are we lucky, after a brief cold snap with temps in the upper 20's and highs in the 40's,it's back to the 70's over the last week and a half.  The beach water temps dropped from the upper 50's to 53 and have leveled off with the warm spell.  Striped Bass catches have been good in the river, there are some speckled trout still in the surf.  Reds and flounder are still being caught in the waterway north of Wrightsville Beach and down S of Carolina Beach.  I have not heard of any trout down river but I'll bet someone has seen a few.  Commercial King fisherman are having great to fair days when they get to run offshore.  The Bluefin bite is further to the north this year and Striped Bass, I have heard, are doing it off the Outer Banks.

I am getting ready for the 4th Annual Cape Fear Riverwatch Striped Bass Tournament http://www.cfrw.us/stripertourney.html.  Hopefully the weather will hold and we'll not have some crazy ass cold front blow everything up.  It's due to happen be we can hope to get through this weekend with the same pattern and catches should be good if it holds.  I just got some new Shimano Sahara 3000's to replace some gummed up spheros' (Thanks Frank at Intracoastal Angler) and some more secret weapons to replace some lost ones.  More later and hopefully a nice plaque my anglers and myself.

Later,
